"We Should Get Together" is a new book by Kat Vellos on cultivating better friendships. While this is a terrific subject to address, what I'm equally pleased by is that Kat Vellos is also a full-time user experience designer.
The author has taken the tools from her work in UX, such as user research, interviews, prototyping and testing (in the form of a local meetup) and applied them towards solving a pervasive and meaningful contemporary problem.
When non-technical people ask me what I do, I usually say "software designer" instead of "UX designer" because that's so often what my job comes down to. And the vast majority of UX designers work in or with large technical companies because that's where the value of UX design is best understand.
But user experience can be so much more than that. When applied well, UX design is nothing less than a framework for making meaningful positive improvements to people's lives. Kat Vellos' work is a wonderful reminder of this.
